OMNI Development Stack Modernization
Collaborated on an internal prototype and technical pitch for modernizing OMNI's development workflow with GitHub Actions CI/CD and optional React frontends alongside the existing PHP backend.
Prototype & Proposal
In July 2024, another developer and I spent a focused period exploring how OMNI could modernize parts of its development workflow without forcing every project into a completely new stack.
The prototype covered two areas I was particularly interested in: GitHub Actions for repeatable CI/CD and React for projects that genuinely benefited from a more dynamic frontend. An important part of the demo was showing that React did not require replacing the existing PHP backend. We could modernize the client-side experience selectively while preserving the systems and knowledge the company already relied on.
It was very important to keep moving fast to new projects and we have a lot of existing code that would not be ideal to migrate; however, we recognized that we needed to modernize our workflow. Often I was responsible with communicating new ideas that the company could adopt to delivery better services and this project was a good example of that.
I also created a site during this time, Off Campus Cable, that demonstrated how a proposed partnership between OMNI and cable providers could operate as a consumer-facing advertising product. The site was built with the proposed stack to demo modern JS/Node capabilities to the team, and was used to demonstrate the workflow and capabilities of the modernization proposal.
