Granite Theatre
Redesigned Granite Theatre's Wix website and built custom CMS-backed systems so shows, events, bookings, and other recurring content could be maintained by nontechnical staff.
Design & Implementation
The Granite Theatre wanted to remain on Wix, but the existing workflow made routine updates unnecessarily repetitive. New shows and events often meant manually creating new pages. I reorganized that content around custom CMS collections and reusable dynamic layouts, allowing staff to update structured data instead of rebuilding the same presentation each time.
Visually, the site uses the theatre itself as the centerpiece: a clean white and blue identity, large photography of the historic building and productions, and poster-driven season layouts. The design is intentionally restrained so production artwork and event information remain the focus. I had a lot of fun with this one getting to work for a theatre, so the assets I needed were already ready and fun and visually interesting, from professional production photography to dark lens-flared backgrounds from behind the stage.
Project Summary
Key Achievements
- •Replaced repetitive manually created content with custom Wix CMS collections and dynamic content
- •Created maintainable systems for shows, events, bookings, and other frequently updated theatre information
- •Designed the site so day-to-day updates could be handled by nontechnical staff
Key Challenges
- •Working within the constraints of a third-party website platform while still creating custom content-management behavior
- •Supporting a large amount of seasonal content without requiring staff to duplicate and rebuild pages
Key Learnings
- •How strongly content architecture affects maintainability for organizations with frequently changing programming
- •Working around platform constraints instead of assuming a fully custom stack is always the right solution
